This Musician Bride Wore Vivienne Westwood for Her Flower-Filled Garden Wedding in Los Angeles

Singer Madison McFerrin and celebrity trainer Jacy Cunningham are among the few lucky people to experience a whirlwind romance. The two met at DJ Jazzy Jeff’s Playlist Retreat in 2024, a multi-day event for artists to work on music and collaborate. “During the first evening studio session, I overheard Madison’s music and found myself smitten to the core,” remembers Jacy. “The next day, I mustered up the courage to stop her on her way to the bathroom and share that I loved her music. From that point forward, we spent the next three days falling into a timeless love.”
“All we did was laugh and play, constantly remarking how we felt like little kids around one another,” Madison adds.
After the retreat, Madison visited Jacy in Washington, D.C., where he lived at the time, and by the end of the trip, they decided he would move to Los Angeles to be with her. “Within a few days, I knew that I had found my person, that I had found forever,” shares Jacy. They would return to the Playlist Retreat in 2025 as newlyweds.
The couple admits they didn’t have a traditional engagement. “We talked about getting married within months of knowing each other—it simply felt inevitable,” says Madison. “Once we actually decided we wanted to pick a date and start planning, we hit up my dear family friend (and would-be officiant), vice chairman of Sotheby’s Jewelry, Frank Everett, to help us source a ring designer. Given the style I was going for, he suggested Maggi Simpkins—turns out she and Jacy had known each other a decade prior!” The process of designing the ring took five weeks during the summer of 2025. On the day it arrived in the mail, Madison waited for Jacy so they could see it for the first time together. “Before I could finish opening it, we were both in tears recognizing the impending moment,” says Jacy. “I opened the box, holding back a wealth of tears, and asked her, ‘Madison, will you marry me?’” After she replied “yes,” the couple “hugged for what felt like an entire day,” Jacy recalls.
Madison and Jacy planned their entire wedding in just a three-month window, working with Gabriela Pilar Events to help the celebration come to life. “Without Gabriela’s guidance, this beautiful wedding would not have been possible! She made everything seamless and was super hands on,” says the bride. “It turns out that when you don’t have time to be indecisive, things can actually run pretty smoothly.” The couple would exchange vows on September 13, 2025, at the home of the late comedian John Witherspoon in Sherman Oaks, California. “His widow, Angela Robinson, and my mom have been dear friends since before I was born,” explains Madison. “Their home has always been as vibrant and magical as Angela’s art collection—the ivy-wrapped exterior, rooms overflowing with color and creativity provided the perfect backdrop for our garden wedding.” The venue also inspired their wedding party’s attire. “We wanted it to feel like we were all flowers in Angela’s beautiful garden,” says Madison. So, the couple gave them a color palette to follow and asked them to follow an “elevated garden chic vibe.”
While the wedding was planned in just three months, the bride found her dress much earlier. “Because I’m a Scorpio, and therefore slightly psychotic, I unintentionally bought my wedding dress after having only known Jacy for two months,” admits Madison. When she saw Los Angeles–based salon LoHo Bride was having its biannual sample sale, she decided to do some shopping. “I put on my late grandmother’s engagement ring and dragged my friend and fellow Scorpio songstress Camille Trust over to LoHo to play dress up,” the bride shares. When she tried on Vivienne Westwood’s Vaida dress, Madison knew it was the one. “I knew I’d deeply regret walking away without it, so I did what any sane 33-year-old woman does—bought it and hid it in my closet until I had the balls to tell my mother seven months later.”
When Madison did finally share the news about her dress, her mother let her borrow some pieces from her jewelry collection to accessorize her wedding day look. “I’d always dreamed of wearing her aquamarine David Yurman earrings to cover both something borrowed and something blue, and that dream came true,” says Madison. “I was honored she also let me borrow her 60th birthday present—an Art Deco diamond bracelet circa 1930. Both pieces were sourced by Frank—he has always made sure the McFerrin women look fabulous!”
For her beauty, the bride wanted to go for a natural glam look to mirror her usual low-maintenance style. “India Hammond came recommended via my sister-in-law, and after seeing her work on celebrities like Ava DuVernay, I knew she’d be able to treat my skin and hair with the love it deserved on my big day,” says Madison.
Jacy admits he spent a little too long searching for his wedding day suit. Less than a month out from the wedding, the couple saw a style they liked in a Suitsupply Instagram ad and decided to head to their local store in Venice. Luckily enough, the one they saw in the ad was available in stock. “The store attendant and I spoke of the size of the suit being too small, and Madison insisted that I try it on,” shares Jacy. “As I get one arm into the jacket sleeve, I notice how easy and effortless it is, and then the other arm follows in the same manner. It seemed too good to be true.”
When the wedding weekend arrived, it felt like the perfect moment to celebrate. “Los Angeles seemingly broke its weeks-long heatwave to ensure we had the perfect weather,” says the bride. The festivities kicked off with a small rehearsal dinner that allowed the couple’s two families to meet for the first time. “It was so beautiful to spend some intimate time with our closest loved ones before the craziness of the wedding day got in the way,” shares the bride.
The couple did a first look at the Witherspoon Estate before the ceremony so they could take portraits before the celebrations went into full gear. The ceremony itself, held in the beautiful garden grounds, was short and sweet. “Both Jacy and I wanted a short ceremony so that we could get the party started,” says the bride. “Walking down the aisle with my father to Stevie Wonder’s ‘Happier Than the Morning Sun’ was an even more perfect moment than I could have imagined.”
