Although it didn’t snow during New York Fashion Week this season (lucky us!), the week brought plenty of gray, cloudy skies, and lots of rain. But you’d never expect the New York street style bunch to let a little bit of dreary weather keep them from donning their best looks. We’ve seen plenty of animal prints and primary colors captured by our very own Phil Oh. But as the rain-soaked week came to an end, another street style trend grew: a fabulous arrangement of florals for February—and we don’t mean Valentine’s Day bouquets.

An unexpected and often overlooked print for winter, flower-dotted looks were a fresh-as-a-daisy way to stand out in a crowd of browns and neutrals this season. A patterned faux-fur or bold-colored parka is to be expected from showgoers in the colder months, but a coat decorated with tulips and carnations and a rose-print frock in the dead of winter? Not so much.

Here, five New York fashion week street style stars make the case for florals this February.

Flower Spotting

Not all floral prints are full of color—go monochromatic in a black-tone print, and keep the rest simple with white denim and your go-to black booties.

Antique Florals

Put some spring in your step this winter. Break out summer’s vintage floral-print frocks, skirts, or blouses, but keep warm with wool camel coats and the season’s It boot.

A gingham cape and a floral frock can be worn in winter too, so long as there’s a set of base layers and the right accessories—in this case, a pair of knee-high boots and gloves to match.
