Last Week, Stars Went for Epic Vintage and Effortless Cool

Film festivals, fashion shows, and parties galore: Fall started with a flurry of red carpet fun for the world’s most stylish. The final days of the Venice Film Festival yielded loads of glamour, but guests didn’t need to dress up to stand out. Juror Stacy Martin brought real-girl charm to the festivities, arriving via water taxi in an understated black day dress cinched with a prizefighter belt. Margaret Qualley also kept things casual, opting for a dotted Miu Miu prairie look and dainty white purse. An antidote to the over-styled “off-duty” attendees, Qualley and Martin looked approachable, modern, and effortlessly cool.
Elsewhere, Lily-Rose Depp commanded the red carpet alongside boyfriend Timothée Chalamet at the premiere of their period drama The King. She wore an ethereal pink Chanel gown that paired perfectly with Chalamet’s cream-colored suit by Haider Ackermann. The look from JW Anderson that Sylvia Hoeks chose for a screening of Waiting for the Barbarians was equally impactful, its built-in brooches negating the need for a statement necklace.
At GQ’s Men of the Year Awards in London, Adwoa Aboah provided a welcome throwback moment in vintage Tom Ford for Gucci. A key piece from Ford’s final collection for the brand back in 2004, the slinky gown with its chartreuse sequins and transparent panels looked as good as it did nearly 15 years ago.
Meanwhile, in New York, Janelle Monáe exited Ralph Lauren’s spring fashion show (at which she had performed exuberantly and majestically) in a navy sequined evening dress with white cuffs and a high collar by the designer. The addition of a pearl and sapphire choker made for a glittering finish.
