Today, millions of people around the world will celebrate Lunar New Year, which marks their official start to 2019 and the Year of the Pig. In Chinese tradition, that entails plenty of feasts and confetti-strewn street parties, while lucky children will have already received small red envelopes with money inside. Red is a symbol of good luck in Chinese culture, and the gesture is meant to summon good fortune (i.e. more money) in the year to come.
Truthfully, who couldn’t use a little cold hard cash at the moment, especially given fluctuating financial markets and political administrations that favor the wealthy elite (a universal misfortune, as it were). A red wallet might come in handy this year. In fact, let’s not leave it to chance: why not pile on as many red letter accessories as you can, whether you slip on a pair of crimson snakeskin boots or carry a carnelian-colored bag. A silk headband or glittering bead earrings will do the trick, too.
