Is Gigi Hadid scared that her sunglasses will fall from her face and tumble to the floor? Fearful she might lose them in the depths of a bottomless hobo bag? Misplace them in the back of a private black car? Based on her recent accessory choice, these are all safe assumptions. This morning—also the day after her birthday—the supermodel stepped out in a pair of white-frame shades with a signature beloved by retirees everywhere: an eyeglasses chain, this one made from pearls. She sported the Golden-Ager specs with a Rolling Stones tie-dye hoodie, light-wash carpenter jeans by Sandro, and black Dr. Martens boots.
Granny chic isn’t a complete stretch for the young runway walker. The elder-glam aesthetic has dotted runways for a few seasons now, whether in the form of babushka scarves at Gucci or magpie silhouettes at Balenciaga. (In fact, Balenciaga released a silver-plated eyeglasses chain a few years back in Fall 2016. It’s currently out of stock and listed for $495.) The chains have since been making elevated cameos everywhere. Chloé produced a pin-thin version in gold-hued bronze and street style–beloved label Staud rendered the lengthy trinket in chunky tortoiseshell and wood.
