“Saint Laurent Skin” was the official name of Hedi Slimane’s Spring 2016 collection for Saint Laurent, and there was plenty of it on the runway this evening. Find all the details in our recap of the show, below.
1. The runway was set against a cube made up of twinkling light meant to emulate a music venue’s stage. The cube was designed by Hedi Slimane and opened up to reveal a passageway from which models emerged.
2. As always, Catherine Deneuve, Pierre Bergé, and Betty Catroux were seated together in the front row.
3. Salma Hayek was also in attendance, sporting a Saint Laurent star print blouse and two French braids.
4. New model Steffi Soede opened the show in a metallic bias-cut slip dress with red sandals and a diamanté tiara worn across her forehead.
5. Hedi Slimane’s model gang all walked—Grace Hartzel, Ruth Bell, Lida Fox, Lili Sumner, Julia Cumming, et al—in addition to California model and musician Staz Lindes.
6. Agyness Deyn made a return to the runway for Slimane, strutting down his catwalk in a sleeveless moto jacket and sheer skirt, her hair now a warm brown reaching her shoulders.
7. Several Saint Laurent couture pieces were peppered in alongside the ready to wear, among them a black-and-white feather coat and a hand-beaded dress in a trompe l’oeil snakeskin print.
8. Only two shoe silhouettes strutted down the runway: a thin-strapped heel and a rubber rain boot, occasionally embroidered with flowers or crystals.
9. What does a Saint Laurent girl wear underneath her slip dress? Leather undies, of course.
10. The soundtrack this season was “The Mirror” by Damaged Bug, the side project of Thee Oh Sees’s front man, John Dwyer.
