3 Hours and 22 Minutes of Scones and Red-Carpet Style With Elizabeth Debicki

It’s been—to say the least—a big year for Elizabeth Debicki, whose turn as Princess Diana on The Crown’s final season is currently being streamed by Anglophiles everywhere. Vogue recently caught up with the actor while she got ready for an event, and in classic Londoner style, she promptly sat us down for a cup of tea and a scone with jam and cream. (Pro tip, according to Debicki: The jam comes first, then the cream.)

As she tucks into her snack, Debicki reflects on Diana’s legacy, saying: “The thing that really stood out to me...was just this incredible capacity for love, in a way that is without agenda.” Debicki, who has compared portraying some of Diana’s more turbulent final moments to “being underwater,” found herself drawn to the late royal’s “purity of intention” when she first began embodying her more than two years ago. While Debicki is already nostalgic about saying goodbye to the role, she’s also ready for what lies ahead.

After a glam session with her hair and makeup team and slipping into a gorgeous ivory beaded Dior Haute Couture gown picked out by her stylist, Elizabeth Saltzman, Debicki is all ready to hit the red carpet. The nerves have to be running amok on such a momentous night, but Debicki is primarily excited to see her castmates from The Crown, telling Vogue excitedly: “I’m going to go and see my friends.”
