When it comes to switching up your look, shorter hairstyles are one of the most popular choices right now. Bob haircuts continue to reign supreme—from Sofia Richie to Alexandra Daddario, it seems every celebrity on the scene is embracing the style. But it’s not all about bobs. There are plenty of other dreamy short haircut ideas to see you through the end of summer and well into the colder months.

Short hair is set to be on trend for the rest of 2025, meaning there’s no bad time to take the leap with a big chop. Plus, shorter styles make styling so quick and easy, especially convenient if you’re tired of long, heavy hair getting in your way in this hot weather.

The Trinity cut

The character Trinity from The Matrix saga has long been a muse for the fashion world – but in recent months, her short haircut has also become a prime source of inspiration, too. Delilah Belle Hamlin, model and daughter of Lisa Rinna, has adopted the character’s signature style.

With a short base cut, tapered front locks, and slightly longer layers, the Trinity cut sits somewhere between a pixie cut and a bob, borrowing from the cyberpunk aesthetic of the films. The layers and slightly choppy finish make for a lower-maintenance style.

The French bob

We unabashedly follow Sofia Richie Grainge’s beauty advice to the letter. So, when the It-girl decides to change her look, we’d be lying if we said we didn’t pay attention. Just take the French bob the new mum debuted this summer. Effortlessly chic and elegant, the French bob is slightly textured and blunt at the ends, which skim just above the top of her shoulders.

The curly shag

Sitting at the crossroads between a layered cut and a modern mullet, the shag has always been a disruptive, edgy choice. This autumn, the retro look is reinventing itself with longer, softer lines, like on Sandrah Oh. Perfect for textured hair, the curly shag is shaping up to be September’s hottest bohemian-chic cut. For super-curly or coily hair types, try the baby bob instead.

4. The side-part bob

Side-part hairstyles are back as a key hair trend both on the runways and in street style. This fall, the bob is getting an upgrade with a deep side part. It’s an easy way to refresh your cut—and there’s even a trick to make your hair look more voluminous with the change.

“Style your hair in the opposite direction to how you typically wear it,” says Suzette Boozer, celebrity hairstylist and Dippity-Do curly hair expert. “For example, if you part your hair on the left, blow-dry or air-dry it going to the right. Once it’s completely dry, flip it back to your preferred part and you’ll instantly notice more lift and body.”

5. The Lixie

Emma Stone’s recent hair change is not to be slept on. At the premiere of her latest film, Eddington, the actor unveiled a short haircut that quickly set the internet ablaze, the lixie. A longer version of a pixie cut, the lixie is a classic tomboy style but with looser, freer lines to let natural curls and waves do their thing. With shaggy layers, it grows out easily and seamlessly.
