Last night, the fashion set, which included Adriana Lima, Sara Sampaio, and Lottie Moss, descended on amfAR s eighth annual gala at La Permanente. It was an emotional evening with amfAR Award of Courage recipient Lapo Elkann stressing the importance of caring for the underprivileged, and Lima asking for support for those affected by the recent earthquake in central Italy.
For her part, English pop star Charli XCX, who performed in Emporio Armani, said, “amfAR has made an incredible effort for so many years to raise money for research and AIDS prevention.” Following the performance, Dita Von Teese explained the organization s new philanthropic relationship with singers like Charli XCX, “Now it is also possible to support amfAR through music, thanks to the upcoming music compilation that amfAR will release in collaboration with artists.”
Obviously, the charity was at the forefront of everyone s mind, as famous photos of Marilyn Monroe by Douglas Kirkland and Cracking Art Group s Rabbit installation were auctioned off—the latter raised over $50,000. Chairman of the Board Kenneth Cole underscored the organization s mission at the end of the evening: “This has been an incredible fundraising event for us since it is among our goals to develop the scientific basis of a cure for AIDS by 2020, and our ability to achieve this goal depends heavily on the funds we raise.”
