Sarah Burton presented her Fall 2016 collection for Alexander McQueen on Sunday during London Fashion Week. The show marked a seasonal return to London for the brand and was filled with house signatures like structured suiting, whimsical motifs, and gorgeous gowns. Here, nine things to know about the collection. Check back later for Sarah Mower’s review.
1. The show was held in Lawrence Hall, where a sheer black screen was erected in the center of the venue to subdivide the space.
2. Current McQueen campaign star Natalie Westling opened the show in a black coat with surreal butterfly, watch, and horse embroideries.
3. Unbuttoned and ruffled details from the Spring collection were continued on the runway today, reworked in printed fabrics and new silhouettes.
4. Several suiting looks were peppered throughout the romantic collection, featuring trousers belted across the thigh and shin.
5. Models’ hair was swept into updos adorned with jewelry.
6. Jewelry motifs from the brand’s Fall 2016 men’s show carried over into the women’s collection, including safety pins and star-studded chains.
7. Leather corsets were worn over ruffled minidresses, an homage to a silhouette Alexander McQueen featured in several collections past.
8. Unicorns are real—on this beaded and sequined gown at least.
9. The show ended with quiltlike coats worn over richly embroidered gowns.
