Barack Obama and Joe Biden are back at their bromance. Yesterday, the former president and vice president went to Dog Tag Bakery in Washington D.C. for an impromptu lunch date.
And, one could say they went ham with their order—because, well, they ordered “The Captain” sandwich, which is described on Dog Tag’s menu as ham with gruyère on shallot jam ciabatta. Obama also got a side of fennel salad, while Biden indulged in a slice of mint basil blueberry cake. They each enjoyed a cup of coffee, too.
Predictably, their arrival caused quite the scene. People crowded behind them, cellphones waving. The men had to shout their orders, and inquiry about mustard, to their cashier.
Dog Tag Bakery describes itself as a “living business school” for veterans. It provides a fellowship for employees to take classes at nearby Georgetown University while working at the shop for first-hand work experience.

Megan Ogilvie, CEO of Dog Tag, told Time that they were only given notice about the visit about 10 minutes before the high-profile pair showed up. “It was unbelievable, an amazing visit. They were so gracious with their time, so incredibly humble and lovely,” she said. “They gave time to all of our fellows in the program, embraced all of them, shook hands, took selfies.”
“It just felt like they were two friends having lunch together,” she added.
