Martha Stewart Breaks Beauty Rules Because She “Likes to Glow”

At a Martha Stewart dinner party, no spoon, fork, or a single petal on a flower arrangement would ever be out of place. But when it comes to her beauty routine? Well, the lifestyle titan isn’t afraid to use products wherever she pleases, regardless of their intended purpose.

While sharing her Beauty Secrets with Vogue, the 84-year-old displays a bottle of Mario Badescu’s A.H.A. Botanical Body Soap. “This is the soap I use on my face,” she says. Yes, body soap! Why stop the rule-breaking there? Stewart uses her own Elm Bioscience’s A30 Elemental Night Cream in the morning, tapping it into her décolleté under a layer of Alastin HydraTint Pro Mineral Sunscreen.

While she’s vigilant about protecting her skin from actual UV rays, Stewart’s daily makeup routine delivers a sun-kissed effect. “I’ve been using L’Oreal Lumi Glotion since they put it on me in a little social media campaign,” she says. “It gives you that glow that is so important. I like to glow. I don’t like matte finishes on pretty much anything. I like my furniture to be shiny, I like my face to be shiny.” As she adds more “cheeky” color with a trio of Charlotte Tilbury bronzer, luminous MAC blush, and Lancôme highlighter, the Elm Biosciences cofounder takes more time to heap praise on shine.

“What I really like about the new trend in makeup is the lustrousness,” she says. To bring the trend to her lips, Stewart slicks them with a coat of Armani Beauty liquid eyeshadow. “I went to Sephora and bought every color,” she says, coating her pout with a brownish-pink frosty hue. “See? It’s kind of metallic-y, shiny…. Who knew that you could use eyeshadow on your lips?”

Of course, Stewart knew, but that’s the last beauty tip she has time for today. “I have things to do and places to go,” she says. “I’m a busy person.” And with that, the legendary hostess is off with a sparkly “Ciao, ciao.”
