What a year for fashion, huh? The red carpets were bustling in 2023, between awards season, the Met Gala, fashion month, and the return of glitzy Hollywood premieres post-SAG strikes. As Vogue’s weekly Best Dressed list attested, A-list stars commanded the step-and-repeats in a variety of striking, innovating looks. And as we near the end of the year, the time has come to reflect on which notable names served up the very best fashion moments. Drumroll, please: It’s our annual roundup of the year’s best-dressed celebs.
Of course, compiling the year’s best-dressed stars was no easy feat. To zero in on the final cut, Vogue looked to the red-carpet standouts who cultivated a unique fashion identity, taking exciting risks. On the list? There are fixtures such as Rihanna and Tilda Swinton, of course, but there are newcomers too, such as Lily Gladstone and Greta Lee, both of whom are major contenders in the upcoming 2024 awards season. Jacob Elordi and Troye Sivan are two of the stylish gents who made the cut. All of these A-listers made red-carpet dressing look like sport—fusing the classic and the contemporary with grace, and, in so doing, creating fresh and modern end results. If nailing personal style is a sport, they all get gold medals.

Taylor Russell
After bursting onto the fashion scene last year with her promotional appearances for the film Bones and All, Taylor Russell continued her style reign in 2023 with a slew of looks sculptural, sleek, and forward-thinking. While many of her winning red-carpet looks were designed by Loewe—she is now a muse for designer Jonathan Anderson and the house—that didn’t mean her ensembles felt overtly branded or seemed devoid of Russell’s personality. In fact, she and stylist Ryan Hastings achieved quite the opposite: She stole the spotlight in crystal-bodice gowns, tailored black suiting, and fringed maxidresses.
Hunter Schafer
Hunter Schafer, who works with stylist Dara Allen, proved to be one of the boldest Hollywood dressers this year, embracing eye-popping prints and embellishments, metallic finishes, and skin-baring silhouettes. “Hunter and I wanted to push the envelope with fashion on the red carpet,” Allan told Vogue in November during the Hunger Games press tour. Some of Schafer’s best looks? They include the floral Marni frock made of upcycled metal flowers, the hand-painted Schiaparelli number, and, of course, the golden-foil Prada.
Yseult
French singer Yseult is no stranger to high fashion, having walked runways for brands such as Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga. This year, she also proved she has the makings of a true red-carpet star. “I love wearing a garment that makes me feel strong and vulnerable,” Yseult told Vogue of her personal style earlier this year. Her 2023 fashion choices have certainly been strong: She has commanded the step-and-repeat in fitted leather minidresses, streamlined tuxedos, and elegant caped gowns.
Emma Corrin
If you think you need a glitzy gown to prevail in Hollywood, think again: Emma Corrin’s quirky approach to red-carpet dressing has been a standout of the year. “What’s exciting about working with Emma is that they’re a risk taker,” Harry Lambert, Corrin’s stylist, told Vogue last year. “They want to have fun. They’re excited by fashion. They’re not scared of it.” The star experimented with a range of unexpected looks in 2023, ranging from a tuxedo jacket paired with a sheer skirt to Miu Miu briefs styled with a buttoned-up cardigan. Nobody did the pantless trend better.
Jacob Elordi
Between Saltburn and Priscilla, Jacob Elordi had quite the whirlwind cinematic year—with many standout red-carpet moments to match. Styled by the duo Wendi and Nicole, the actor has emerged as one of the best-dressed men in Hollywood: The lanky star mixed classic tailoring with unexpected accents such as pussy-bow blouses, short shorts, and ’70s-style broad-collared shirts. These oh-so-modern ensembles struck the right balance of classic and contemporary, masculine and feminine. Plus the man knows how to rock a bag.
Rihanna
When Rihanna arrived hours late to the 2023 Met Gala, her white silk-faille Valentino gown and floral cape was well worth the wait: As usual, the star showed up to the red carpet ready to deliver a memorable look. It’s a fashion sentiment that she and stylist Jahleel Weaver nailed all year long. Even while expecting baby number two with A$AP Rocky, the superstar redefined what maternity style can look like (and, spoiler alert, mom-to-be ensembles can be impossibly cool). Her standout moments of 2023 ranged from the red Loewe jumpsuit she wore while performing at the Super Bowl to the black body-hugging Alaïa gown she donned for the Oscars.
Tilda Swinton
Tilda Swinton has always marched to the beat of her own drum, and the star’s approach to red-carpet style in 2023 was no different. While working with longtime stylist Jerry Stafford, the actor chose smart, structural looks that challenged the status quo. Did she pull off Jean Paul Gaultier by Haider Ackermann’s huge white coat? Check. How about sophisticated Chanel tweeds or slinky Haider pantsuits? Check, check. Where other A-listers slipped into ethereal gowns, Swinton gravitated toward sharp tailoring instead—and the diversions paid off.
A$AP Rocky
When A$AP Rocky released his 2013 track “Fashion Killa,” he meant that. A decade later, the rapper is still at the top of his fashion game. With his partner, Rihanna, frequently by his side, the star emerged in a bevy of streetwear looks and suits—often styled by Matthew Henson—that proved he’s one of the coolest dads around. At the Met Gala, for one, he rocked a full Gucci look including a blazer, shirt, and tie—all set off with bejeweled jeans and a tartan skirt. This man doesn’t need a red carpet to shine, however: In his free time, he was paparazzi’d in everything from casual sweats to dressy blazers, many of them from his favorite label, Bottega Veneta. (He recently starred in the Italian label’s campaign, after all.)
Lily Gladstone
With her breakout performance in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, Lily Gladstone emerged as one of the 2024 awards season’s top contenders. And the Indigenous star has been using the red carpet as a means to spotlight contemporary Native American designers, sporting graphic dresses from Jamie Okuma and intricate jewelry by Jennifer Younger, for example. There has been no shortage of high-fashion glam either: Gladstone’s stylist, Jason Rembert, has dressed her in a bevy of fresh-off-the-runway looks by the likes of Louis Vuitton, Marni, and Valentino. We smell an incoming Oscar.
Kendall Jenner
Right now, nobody ignites a trend quite as fast as Kendall Jenner, and this year, the model continued paving the way for what’s next in fashion. Jenner, who works with stylists including Dani Michelle and Marni Senofonte, was spotted rocking two of 2023’s biggest style movements—the pantless trend and the stealth-wealth trend—well before either became a mainstream thing. And she likes to give trends a distinctive twist; her pantless Marc Jacobs bodysuit at the Met Gala, for instance, was inspired by archival Karl Lagerfeld swimwear. Also, nobody had a better quietly luxe coat wardrobe than Jenner this year; The Row should send her a personal thank-you card for how much she’s worn the label.
Jodie Turner-Smith
Few stars have as much fun with fashion as Jodie Turner-Smith. Styled by the duo Wayman + Micah, the actor treats the red carpet as her playground—donning vibrant looks that range from playful (Feathers! Color! Drama!) to ultrasexy (please see her pantless Viktor Rolf look at Vogue World: London). Whereas some stars cultivate a clear fashion focus for the step-and-repeat, Turner-Smith isn’t afraid to experiment. You simply never know what the risk taker will rock next. Come 2024, let’s hope she will continue to keep us on our toes.
Greta Lee
Past Lives star Greta Lee has been certainly dressing the part of a top 2024 awards-season contender. Lee, who works with stylist Danielle Goldberg, has developed a distinctive red-carpet style that has seen her slip into some of the best runway looks of the year, from brands such as a Loewe (she’s a friend of the house), Gucci, and Ferragamo. Her fashion signatures? She favors the sculptural, choosing soft yet architectural silhouettes that accentuate the form underneath. The ensembles are restrained but still eye-catching.
Maisie Williams
If Hollywood handed out a Most Eccentric Dresser award for 2023, it would certainly go to Maisie Williams. The Game of Thrones star has proven to be one of the most exciting—and unconventional—dressers of the year, and it has been a total delight to see. Her chameleonic approach to style has found her sporting everything from ethereal white Simone Rocha gowns to natty Thom Browne suits to futuristic Iris van Herpen creations. No matter how avant-garde, there’s virtually no look that Williams can’t pull off. Teach us your ways.
Troye Sivan

With the release of his album Something to Give Each Other, singer Troye Sivan was at the top of his game this year—red-carpet fashion included. Styled by Marc Forné, Sivan leaned into his heartthrob status with forward-thinking looks that were simultaneously very elegant and very hot. In September, the skin-baring star broke the internet when he attended the Rabanne show in Paris in a denim tuxedo—the jacket worn open to reveal naked abs and a crystal bra top. If you ever expect to find Sivan in a standard suit and tie, think again.
Beyoncé
Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour was one of the most-discussed concerts of the year—and her epic, one-of-a-kind wardrobe had a lot to do with it. She and stylist KJ Moody called upon virtually every top luxury fashion house to create custom ensembles for the show. Mugler! Balmain! Rick Owens! The whole gang was there. Of course, no outfit was more famous than her surreal hand-printed Loewe catsuit covered in glittering crystals. It should cost a billion to look this good.
