But at the Spring 2017 shows, for all of the air-dried lengths and laissez-faire curls parading from New York to Paris, there was an equally unexpected updo. The most surprising of the season’s coifs seemed full of odd-ball references, making each pass down the runway the perfect fodder for ready-for-Tumblr-account memes. Sharp spikes of hair jutting out from models’ heads at Haider Ackermann could have been plucked directly from a certain Rugrats doll.
