No need for official statements. These days, the best way to shoot down swirling Internet rumors is a well-timed friendly selfie. See: Kim Kardashian West Instagramming a late-night shot of herself and Amber Rose at the height of Rose’s Twitter feud with Kanye West. Last night at the Met Gala, Rita Ora followed suit, snapping a shot of her and a smiling Beyoncé that spoke a thousand words. The singer, Fifty Shades of Grey star, and former Jay Z protégé captioned it simply, “family.” She attended the Met Gala as a guest of Vera Wang, while Beyoncé arrived without Jay Z, in showstopping latex Givenchy.
Ora was, of course, one of the subjects of a sexist witch hunt for the mysterious “Becky with the good hair” referenced in the song “Sorry” on Beyoncé’s instant-classic visual album, Lemonade. The Beyhive stung Ora after she snapped herself in a lemon-printed bra, but she later denied being Becky on Twitter, saying, “I never usually address tabloid gossip but let me be clear, these rumors are false. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Beyoncé.”
But if Ora’s statement was step one, their selfie would seem to offer photographic evidence, putting swirling speculation to rest in one fell swoop.
