When you think of Parisian style, you may think of understated and effortless ensembles—but Blake Lively stepped out in the City of Light yesterday with a much bolder aesthetic in mind. With husband Ryan Reynolds in tow, the actor was spotted mastering the art of print-clashing—proving that, yes, you can mix florals with stripes. The key to success? It was all in the details: Lively’s polished outfit played with proportions, layering, and color-matching.

The trendsetter first used her outerwear as a grounding layer (yes, she wore a coat in the middle of July). Opting for a pinstriped topcoat in navy and white, she then contrasted it with a floral-printed day dress in the same hues. Keeping both pieces in the same color family is precisely why the florals worked so well with the stripes. Reynolds even coordinated with Lively too, adding a pinstriped button-up shirt that nodded to her coat.

For a pop of color, meanwhile, Lively then wore a classic mini Chanel flap bag across the body in Barbie pink. (It’s the summer of Barbiecore, after all.) Her white sneakers were also perfect for touring around the city—perhaps for a visit to the Eiffel Tower. Or, at the very least, to grab a café and croissant.
