Blue Crush: L’Wren Scott’s Midnight-colored Eyes and Nails

“Midnight blue is one of L’Wren’s favorite colors,” said makeup artist Aaron de Mey backstage at the designer’s show Thursday afternoon. You don’t say. Scott showed a fur-trimmed leather coat and luxe fitted skirt-suit in the dramatic hue for fall—sending her models down the runway with eye makeup and manicures to match.

“We wanted something very dark, very dense, but a little bit more unexpected than a typical chocolate brown,” said de Mey of swirling a rich powder pigment (Lancôme Color Design shadow in Garment) onto models’ lids and finishing with a dab of transparent gloss (Juicy Tubes in Pure) on top. As for the moody, indigo-tinged nail polish that manicurist Yuna Park custom-mixed for the show, it was made to match one of the designer’s floor-length finale dresses. Proof, as if more were needed, that Scott is utterly in sync with the red-carpet needs of her Hollywood clientele.
