The term “uniform dressing” has become trite at this point, but a quick scroll of the feed (and a glance at Hailey Bieber’s street stylings) confirms there’s still comfort to be found in numbers when it comes to copy-and-paste wardrobes. One of the most dominant factions that refuses to die? The Clean Girls, with their minimalist aesthetic built on stripped-back basics and a penchant for Blank Street matcha or pastel-pink Stanley Cups.
Their high priestess, cycling endlessly through athleisure-adjacent tank tops and tiny sunglasses, is, of course, Hailey Bieber. No one does Erewhon-coded Los Angeles girl style quite like her. Presumably aided by the relaxed pace of life that comes from residing within a short chauffeured ride of Nobu Malibu, Hailey Bieber’s daytime wardrobe tends to adhere to a reliable formula: straight-cut denim, waitlisted Tank Air tops or Cou Cou Intimates pieces, and most recently, a pair of relatively sensible heels. Forgoing anything too spindly or skyscraper for a coffee run in L.A., Bieber looked light on her feet, ready to fend off the influencer army at the smoothie bar.
There is much to be said for the transformative power of a shoe. A simple, walkable heel has the ability to elevate jeans and a tank top from just-dashed-out-the-door to street-style moodboard status. Personally, I will never tire of the “boring outfit, fun shoe” equation, which is the best entry point into whimsy-meets-practical dressing. Other varieties include a fun skirt with a threadbare T-shirt, or Brandy Melville basics offset by aggressively A-lister sunglasses. With Mrs Bieber paving the way, expect her disciples to ditch the pilates socks and micro Uggs for a modest three-centimeter heel any day now.
