That Best Dressed Hall of Famer Carolina Herrera has good taste is indisputable. It’s this, combined with just the right measure of drama—via a poufed sleeve, the drape of a dress, or clever embroidery—that gives her designs longevity. This is true for her ready-to-wear and bridal collections, launched in 1981 and 1987, respectively. Herrera’s most famous wedding gown is the romantic and personal clover-strewn number she created for Caroline Kennedy. As the bridal market collections wind down and in celebration of the designer’s 35 years in business, we went into the archives, where we found 13 wedding stunners by Herrera, including one special surprise. In 1991, years before she married a toreador in a custom Herrera creation, the designer’s daughter, Carolina Herrera, Jr., took to the runway in a long-sleeved, rhinestone-trimmed pouf.
