For those not inclined to wearing shorts during summer, there are seasonal-friendly alternatives. From linen trousers to caftans, the options are endless and varied, however, it’s good to see singer—and newly appointed judge of The Voice—Gwen Stefani taking on a 1990s throwback: the cargo trouser. One-part army surplus, one-part precision tailoring, the utilitarian pant lends Stefani’s look a sense of ease and makes for a nice foil to her streamlined L.A.M.B. top. The tapered leg balances out any volume here, with tribal-inspired sandals and a subtly studded hobo as finishing touches. As simple as she makes it all seem, replicating her style isn’t as easy as you’d think. We suggest sticking to a more neutral palette in shades of tan and black for a sleek look that’ll work for day or night.
