New York isn’t called the Big Apple for nothing. Today, the second largest apple-producing state in the country kicks off one of its three Cider Weeks with a series of events including dinners and tastings across New York City restaurants, with the intent to, as the organization’s tag line goes, “craft the cider comeback.”
Indeed, cider has been having a renaissance as of late. Since 2011, the state’s number of the drink’s producers has gone from five to 29. And as a gluten-free alternative to beer, cider has quickly become a popular and easy brew to craft at home. Requiring few steps and little equipment, several cider-making kits are now readily available online and everything from labels to tinctures are easily customizable, making a crisp and refreshing bottle the perfect “in-cider” gift for family and friends.
