The CFDA Fashion Awards celebrate excellence in sartorial innovation, but as years previous have demonstrated, the red carpet is destined to put forth a parade of equally head-turning beauty looks.
It s no surprise then that this year s attendees upped the creative ante with a lineup of hair and makeup that won t soon be forgotten. With Board of Directors’ Tribute recipient Gloria Steinem—lips slicked in cool pink gloss and blonde hair smoothed in signature fashion—leading the charge, women of all ages made a beautiful and powerful impression. While come-as-you-are beauty reigned with natural makeup, radiant skin, and glossy hair, there were plenty of scene-stealing pops of pigment, from Janelle Monáe s electro-watt signature crimson lip to Elsa Hosk s classic cherry-red pout and Priyanka Chopra s sensuous merlot mouth.
Of course, this being a crowd that appreciates the dramatic appeal of a little shock value, there were plenty of surprises, too. Among the night s standouts?
