Last night, father-son duo Joe and Charlie Casely-Hayford showed their fall 2015 menswear collection in London, but for all the appeal of the house s homage to Coogi rainbow knits and climb-on-in-here piles of soft layers and oversize anoraks, we were most inspired by the look of the younger designer. Charlie Casely-Hayford stepped out (towering over his dad) wearing a suit-and-boot combo that left us with a particularly deep, soulful desire . . . to Google. We re ready to take cues from his outerwear approach immediately, adopting a fresh attitude towards the statement coat: It can be completely minimal. That’s right, the new statement coat doesn’t have to be about bright colors or measured by strangers impulses to touch its textured fabrics—instead, it s about being the centerpiece of your look. Casely-Hayford s winter uniform is a graphic coat (consider buying one in two colorways so you re always ready to go) worn with made-to-measure slim trousers cropped just a little higher than you d expect, and a pair of round-toed military boots. It s the kind of statement that whispers rather than shouts—and as the loom of mid-winter coat fatigue starts to creep in, we re thrilled to listen.
