On a very busy NYC night, a carefully crafted fundraiser was held amid it all. At Sixth Floor Loft in the center of Manhattan, guests gathered to celebrate Gigi Burris-O Hara s foundation Closely Crafted s second annual fundraiser dubbed “Move the Needle.”
Founded by the milliner in 2022, Closely Crafted is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and restoring the legacy of artisanship through empowering the next generation of creators. The funds raised for the evening will go towards the organization s educational mission to train up-and-coming talent.
At the event, the venue itself was decorated to reflect the cause. The room hosting the party appeared like a deconstructed garment, with walls wrapped in muslin fabric (which is set to be donated post-event). A “development atelier” performed the draping of a garment in real time. Pleating techniques were put on display by masters at Tom’s Sons International Pleating. A video highlighting local artisans was shown. The curation of detail even came down to the beverages—an array of locally crafted spirits like Clermont Steep American Single Malt Whiskey and North Fork-based Macari Wines.
Amid the elegantly clad guests were renowned fashion designers, including Willy Chavarria, Brandon Maxwell, Christopher John Rogers, Maxwell Osborne, and Ashlynn Park—just to name a few. And in a wink to Burris-O Hara s metier, guests donned headpieces—Osborne and Rogers sported ball caps.
