What do Bruce Springsteen and the late-’70s hip-hop scene have in common? According to Coach 1941’s creative director, Stuart Vevers, both are prime inspirations for laid-back American style. Vevers drew from these ideas for his Fall 2016 men’s collection, shown today in London. Here, the 10 talking points from the flannel-filled affair.
1. Coach erected a warehouse scene inside London’s Lindley Hall for the occasion, with steel H-beams and rusted metal walls.
2. She may not have walked the runway, but Edie Campbell was all smiles perched in the front row, seated beside Tinie Tempah.
3. The show opened with a reversed shearling coat, tailored black pants, and Coach’s new shearling-trimmed sneaker in caramel leather.
4. Ready for the return of the bucket hat? Vevers offered up bell-shaped toppers that called to mind the Kangol styles favored by LL Cool J in the mid-’90s.
5. Outerwear came oversize and cozy in the form of shearling coats, puffers, and extra-plush reversed shearling jackets.
6. Even with all the oversize options, Vevers still sent out a selection of Perfecto-esque moto jackets inspired by The Boss.
7. Some looks came with a more subtle Bruce Springsteen touch, such as a thin scarf wrapped around the model’s neck.
8. The show centered around three bag shapes: a large tote, a cross-body messenger bag, and this leather rucksack that models wore slung over one shoulder.
9. The T. rex–print sweater seen in Coach’s Pre-Fall collection carried over to its men’s collection. The dino also appeared on accessories, like this leather tote.
10. Several women’s looks were peppered into the show, worn by tomboyish models Mica Arganaraz, Binx Walton, and Lexi Boling.
