The sprawling Wicked press tour may have finally ended for good, but Cynthia Erivo is still occupying much of my brain space. Why? The absolutely gargantuan beige Hermès Birkin she schlepped around New York yesterday.

Before we get into that, though, let’s discuss Erivo’s cozy yet put-together outfit. Befitting the chilly day, she wore a gray cardigan with black trim underneath an oversized brown leather bomber jacket, and a pair of cuffed wide-legged blue jeans. Her styling helped elevate the look: sleek, silver-tipped pointy-toe heels and heaps of mixed metal jewelry—graduated silver hoops, layered gold necklaces, and chunky rings—gave her outfit polish.

Okay, back to the bag. Erivo carried a beige Birkin 50 with palladium hardware in the crook of her arm. For context, this is the size usually preferred by dripped-out giants—not often the go-to for a woman who only just cracks five feet. Despite its impressive capacity, however, Erivo seemed to fill the bag with no problem.

What could possibly be in there? Elphaba’s much-discussed chunky knit sex cardigan, pilfered from the Wicked: For Good set? All of the various looks she wore on her two-year method dressing spree? A collection of smaller Birkins, nestled inside each other like Matryoshka dolls? All I know is that I would hate to lose my keys in there.
