Date Night: Think Before You Text

It’s the morning after a fantastic date, and you have just awoken from a calm slumber, cocooned in your comforter, still indulging in the butterflies in your stomach after you enjoyed a three-hour delightful impromptu dinner after the initial invite to drinks. Congratulations! You hit it off with the person—you want to see them again, and you are pretty sure they want to see you again, too. But please, unless you were the one who did the inviting, whatever you do, don’t reach for the phone and send a “good morning text.” If you don’t know what the “good morning” text is, you’re in the green, but if you often find yourself typing those very words the morning after a date—please stop, immediately. It’s the rise-and-shine salutation of modern-day courting, but with a hint of "remember me?” peskiness. “The recent phenomenon is a virtual wake-up nudge—and it is annoying,” says Vogue.com Market Editor Chelsea Zalopany. “We get it—you met a guy you think is worth keeping around, but please don’t send a 9:00 a.m. text the next morning. People think it s a reminder to the guy they met the previous night, being like ‘Hey, I liked meeting you. Take me out.’ But it’s rushing it! And sending the wrong I m easy and available message.” Translation: We’re sure you are excited that you sparked a stellar connection, but hold off for a few hours before sending the howdy-do SMS first.

The solution to the “good morning” text? Play it cool, unplug, and resist the urge to reach out. Instead, why not do some sun salutes in your charming pajama set dotted with florals? Keep those hands busy making some pancakes in those eyelet-cotton ruffled undies. If you’re feeling rather romantic, slip off your nuit-style slip and dip into the bath. Maybe you can flip on some throwback sitcoms in boy shorts and a crop top while eating Cap n Crunch. But if you still can’t fight the urge to send the “good morning” text—the answer is simple—hit snooze and just sleep on it.
