Accessories designer Sophia Webster and Bobby Stockley, the managing director of her company, were on holiday in Rio when a man randomly stopped them on the beach, congratulated the couple, and asked where Sophia’s engagement ring was. They laughed, but little did she know, there actually was a ring back in the hotel room. (Bobby had been planning to propose toward the end of their trip.) He took the stranger’s question as a good omen, though, and popped the question at sunset. And, of course, she said yes.
When it came time to plan the wedding, the two knew they wanted anything but a traditional venue for their November nuptials. They chose MC Motors in East London because it fit the rustic feel they’d envisioned: They filled the space with a mixture of colorful silk flowers and fresh blooms. Danish designer Morten Underbjerg created Webster’s dress—it had the look of a long gown, but in essence was a minidress with a sheer overlay, beautifully complementing her petite frame.
A friend of Sophia’s mother officiated the ceremony, and after saying their vows, the bride and groom walked down the aisle to **Lauryn Hill’**s cover of “Can t Take My Eyes Off of You.” Guests then moved to cocktails and dinner, where Webster had cleverly named each table after a style of shoe (e.g. “The Gladiators,” “The Hi-Tops,” etc). Dessert, served from a pick-and-mix stand of sweets, complete with cupcakes from Sophia’s favorite bakeshop, proved to be very popular. The couple’s first dance, **Al Green **s “Let’s Stay Together,” kicked off a night of dancing to reggae, soul, and Motown, and U.K. garage. To cap off a perfect day and night? The newlyweds jetted off to Jamaica for their honeymoon—a present from Webster’s former boss, Nicholas Kirkwood, and his business partner, Christopher Suarez.
