Dolce Gabbana know how to put on a show, and the label s Fall 2016 presentation during Milan Fashion Week did not disappoint. Starting with the theme of famous fairy tales, the pair crafted a veritable wonderland in the center of Milan, complete with carriages, chandeliers, and clocks ready to strike midnight. The clothes took on some of that enchanted spirit, too, from the tinsel-like dresses to the sweeping floral coats. Sarah Mower’s full review of the collection will arrive later today—until then, we recap nine points of the show here.
1. Dolce Gabbana didn’t keep its fairy tale theme under wraps. The set included references to Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and Snow White.
2. Longtime Dolce Gabbana muse Bianca Balti sat front row.
3. Dresses featured fairy tale-scene embellishments, like depictions of Snow White’s stepmother s mirror on a navy velvet minidress.
4. If there was ever a time for a princess sleeve, well, this was it. Dolce Gabbana’s were proper poufs that came on semi-sheer and metallic dresses.
5. But what of the princes? They were represented with stately jackets with gold rope trim.
6. Introducing the second chandelier dress of Milan Fashion Week. Here, Dolce Gabbana embellished the front of a black turtleneck dress with chandelier embroidery—probably much easier to wear than Moschino’s full-body version.
7. For the theme-averse, Dolce Gabbana sent out a number of ’40s-ish floral midi dresses with long sleeves.
8. As always, the shoes came with pompoms, studs, and rhinestone trim, but the pair that will have everyone talking are the combat-meets–Chelsea boot hybrids.
9. The show closed with a stampede of models in silver, rose, and magenta sequined minidresses.
