You may think you know your royal babies—there’s the pouty Prince George, the curtseying Princess Charlotte, the adorable Prince Gabriel. But what about Prince Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, the Dragon Prince of Bhutan?
Tucked away from the prying eyes of the Western press, the son of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema doesn’t quite get the media attention of his world-famous European counterparts. But now, thanks to a series of oh-so-adorable pictures from an official trip to India, he’s stealing hearts of royal-watchers everywhere.
First was the little unamused royal wave he gave paparazzi upon his arrival to New Delhi. Then, his pure joy upon being presented with new toys, including a soccer ball and some wood figurines. And his little regal outfit that makes him look one and a half going on seventy. But the one that really caused a collective “awwww” was his adorable bow to the Indian prime minister.
King Jigme and Queen Jetsun Pema are often called the “Will and Kate of the Himalayas.” The comparison is apt: both couples are young, smart, and stylish. And, increasingly, they are shouldering real political responsibility. Kate and Will are said to be on a Brexit “charm offensive” to ease tensions between the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe. Jigme and Jetsun Pema are leading the charge on democratic reforms in Bhutan. Progressive and polished? That’s rightfully royal.
