Eloise vs. Ella: Who’s the Best Dressed Fictional 6-Year-Old?

If growing up you were a fan of the book Eloise and its heroine’s adventures at the Plaza Hotel, then you’ll probably love **Mallory Kasdan’**s new work, Ella (Penguin), a book about a well-raised six-year-old who lives at the Local Hotel in Brooklyn. A sort of Eloise for the hipster generation, Ella is full of cheeky references to the millennial set: The eponymous trendsetter has a manny who makes films, knows how to pickle vegetables, and plays the guitar. Its charming illustrations by Marcos Chin, accompanied by Kasdan’s clever captions, also make it a fun read for kids and their parents.
