As summer draws to a close, so begs the question: What happens to the season’s biggest trends? Today, at the 2025 Venice Film Festival, Emma Stone offered an answer to one omnipresent look.

Stone arrived via water taxi for the Bugonia photocall alongside director Yorgos Lanthimos and co-stars Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis. Dressed, as ever, in Louis Vuitton, the actor wore a black scoopneck halter dress reminiscent of a vintage swimming costume, her round black sunnies also dialing up the retro look. Over the mini, she added an asymmetrical black lace skirt.

Stone continued to play with skirting in the evening, attending the film’s premiere in another Louis Vuitton look: a beaded square-neck dress with a column skirt with a puffed detail from the waist to the knees.

This summer has been rife with silk scarves, tied around the waist and hips. Jennifer Lawrence incorporated the look into her summer in the city style, while Kylie Jenner folded hers into her la dolce vita Sardinian vacation wardrobe. And though most proprietors—Lawrence, Jenner, and Alexa Chung alike—opt to wear theirs over pants, Rihanna wore hers sarong-style, sans layers.

The vacanza style can’t last forever though, and Emma Stone is offering a viable path forward with her lacy overskirt. Sure, the diaphanous look isn’t exactly suitable for dropping temps, but its dark palette and witchy energy befit a funeral for summer 2025, and a look ahead to the fall months.
