Fashion Word of the Day: Eyelet
Where We’ve Seen It: Alexander McQueen fall 2014
Origin: The definition of eyelet is pretty straightforward (a small hole designed to receive a cord or used for decoration) but it comes in a few different forms. Some eyelets are a hole with a metal ring around it (also known as a grommet), while another version is finished with stitching and applied to embroidery techniques. We saw the latter in the Alexander McQueen fall 2014 runway collection in the forms of dresses and blouses with punctured perforations that resembled beautiful, oversize doilies.
