Rihanna appeared at Paris Fashion Week today to present her Fall 2017 Fenty x Puma collection. The Bad Gal continued her subversive streak this season, drawing inspiration from classic preppy ensembles, school uniforms, and sporty athleisure for a collection that seemed fit for under-the-bleachers activities of the illicit—or at least, not parentally condoned—kind. Here, we recap the highs of the show; check Vogue Runway later for Chioma Nnadi’s review.
The Unforgettable Opening LookLest you think Rihanna is the only girl in the world who can free the nipple at Fashion Week, she outfitted model Slick Woods with a bosom-baring puffer coat to open the show.
The Prepster SpiritThe early part of Rihanna’s collection cycled through classically preppy themes, from boarding school tartans to sports jerseys. There were also varsity-style monograms, rugby stripes, and classic tracksuits.
The Off-the-Shoulder and Cinched AthluxuryThe difference between athleisure and athluxury is simple—the former is practical; the latter is aspirational. Much of Rih’s collection falls squarely into the latter category, from the off-the-shoulder track tops to the corseted running pants. These are looks meant for the street, not the gym.
The WelliesYes, the stiletto boots and thigh-highs that have become Fenty x Puma staples remain, but this season Rih added a slightly more wearable footwear option: Wellies. This being Rihanna, however, these weren’t your average rain boots. Fenty x Puma’s versions inched up to models’ upper thighs.
The Health GothsRihanna has plans to resurrect the Health Goth movement with the closing looks of her show. Keep an eye out at your local gym for a pink mohawked girl in all-black Fenty. But please note: Those heels are not treadmill-safe.
