Leave it to Riccardo Tisci to create a fashion show experience to rock New York Fashion Week to its core. At dusk on Pier 26, Tisci staged an elaborate presentation of 88 looks featuring everything from menswear to haute couture inspired by his past decade at the house. 1. The set, designed in collaboration with Marina Abramovic, was made of all recycled materials and intended to evoke the spirit of a Brazilian favela. Performance artists were set throughout the multilevel space, performing works created by Abramovic. Twin beams of light glowed in the distance beyond One WTC, as a sign of remembrance of September 11.
2. The front row was veritably packed with celebrities. Among those in attendance were Nicki Minaj, Christina Ricci, Courtney Love, Ciara, Jennifer Hudson, Amanda Seyfried, Catherine Deneuve, Erykah Badu, Liv Tyler, Steven Tyler, Debbie Harry, and Margot Robbie.
3. It wouldn’t be a Givenchy show without Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West. The pair arrived in black ensembles, with Kim’s lacy dress providing a glimpse at her growing baby bump.
4. Julia Roberts showed her support by arriving in a tee with Riccardo Tisci’s face on it.
5. Many of New York City’s top designers also turned out for Tisci’s showing like Alexander Wang, Joseph Altuzarra, Jack McCollough, Lazaro Hernandez, Michael Kors, and Vera Wang.
6. Longtime Tisci muse Mariacarla Boscono opened the show in a white lacy camisole top and loose trousers, while another of his muses, Raquel Zimmermann, closed it.
7. Many of Tisci’s model muses appeared in the show, including Frankie Rayder, Jamie Bochert, Joan Smalls, Kendall Jenner, Karmen Pedaru, and Iris Strubegger.
8. The show combined women’s and men’s ready-to-wear with new Givenchy Denim items and haute couture pieces inspired by past Tisci designs.
9. And what goes better with intricate Givenchy Haute Couture than a mask of jewels by Pat McGrath?
10. The show was set to live performances that spanned six types of religious music and closed out with a moving rendition of ”Ave Maria.”
