Google’s Most-Searched Travel Destinations for 2016 May Surprise You

Today, Google announced its most-searched lists of 2016. Among a deluge of data, the tech giant shared the year’s most-searched travel destinations. Some locations aren’t huge shockers. (New York City is number one; Rome is also included.) But would you have guessed that Vancouver made the cut? Or that Maui would make the list, but not the greater state of Hawaii? We certainly didn’t. The list also seems to suggest that major world events swayed people’s searches: Rio de Janeiro is number nine, during a year in which the city hosted the Olympic Games. Washington, D.C. ranks shockingly high at number two—perhaps powered by this year’s vitriolic, yet constantly covered, presidential election. Below, the full list with links to our Vogue-approved guides.
