For any A-lister attending the Venice Film Festival, having a movie premiere at the glitzy event would be exciting enough. But this week, Greta Lee has two buzzy films in the running. The actor touched down in the romantic Italian city to promote Kathryn Bigelow’s A House of Dynamite (which she stars in alongside Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson), as well as Kent Jones’s Late Fame (co-starring Willem Dafoe). “[It’s] completely surreal,” Lee tells Vogue. “I feel incredibly lucky, especially because this is my first year attending. Having them here together is really unbelievably special.”

Among other first-timers like Ayo Edebiri, Lee admits she was excited to take part in the glamour of the festival—a Hollywood film gathering unlike any other in the world. “It’s Venice! I’m surrounded by history, cinema, and boats,” says Lee, whose star rose with her incredible performance in the 2023 film, Past Lives. “The incredible part has been celebrating beautiful, original films in a place that feels like its own kind of movie.” Her fashion approach for the star-studded week? “I’m channeling Katharine Hepburn in the movie Summertime—except I hope not to fall in the water,” she jokes.

Lee’s movie star-worthy wardrobe was on full display at last night’s premiere of A House of Dynamite. Styled by Danielle Goldberg, Lee wore a custom black satin gown by Jonathan Anderson at Dior. The shapely mini dress, complete with a plunging neckline, featured cascading layers of green organza. “It was so exciting to see Jonathan’s vision for this Dior gown. Wearing his clothes always feels like wearing a piece of art,” says Lee (who was also his muse while at Loewe). “The look was sculptural and bold but still had a sense of ease and movement that I loved. I felt empowered.”

This being a splashy Venice premiere, Lee could not finish off her ensemble without some striking diamond jewels, of course. The star wore pieces by Tiffany Co., including a pavé necklace in platinum and diamonds, as well as drop earrings and an architectural ring made of platinum and diamonds. “The jewelry was a set that actually debuted today on the carpet,” says Lee. “It was special to be a part of that moment.”

While dressing up and playing the part of a leading lady was fun last night, Lee says she is most sentimental about about being a part of the Bigelow film. “It was a true honor to have had the opportunity to work with the incomparable Kathryn Bigelow, and for this film that is so important and timely,” she says. (The film is centered around a group of White House staffers who are grappling with an impending missile strike on the U.S.)

It’s not the only big movie Lee will be making her press rounds this fall. Post-Venice, she has plans for a little R&R, before she swings back into movie star mode. “I’ll have a little break at home with the kiddos, before jumping into a press tour for Tron: Ares,” she says. “It’s so exciting to be able to celebrate these projects around the world.” As always, you can count on her and Goldberg to whip up some stellar fashions on another red carpet very soon.
