Don’t let the recent rash of hip-hop beefs fool you: The new and old guards of rap aren’t constantly in the throes of an unremitting row. In fact, as Gucci Mane and Travis Scott proved just last night, these two varying schools of talent actually coexist in harmony. Performing their hit “Last Time” on the Jimmy Kimmel Show, the Atlanta rap star and Houston rapper turned Givenchy campaign model brought distinct swag to the stage that perfectly complemented each other.

Layering a sleek black turtleneck underneath a natty white tailored blazer, Gucci Mane cut a dapper silhouette as he made his late-night television debut. His black skinny jeans played off the black outline detailing of his suit jacket, while his ubiquitous diamond chains glittered across his chest. With a bit of a Rat Pack vibe, Gucci’s look stood in contrast to the raver cool ensemble Travis Scott had conceived. Throwing on an oversize tie-dye tee for his performance and slinging a bright purple windbreaker over his shoulder, the emo rapper exuded haphazard skate-park chic. While the two rappers couldn’t look more different, their style reflected the massive shift we’ve seen in hip-hop over the years. Moving away from the oversize streetwear staples that defined the ’90s, MCs across the board are taking major chances with their style and evolving into fashion wild cards. In fact, it may be the only thing rappers, old and new, can really agree upon these days.
