When it comes to wearing bright blush, there’s a fine line between “looking like a Renaissance painting” and “looking like a hot mess,” admits the makeup artist Gucci Westman with a laugh. The trick to pulling off a healthily flushed cheek, she continues, “is that you really need to prep your skin.” After moisturizing, she suggests “evening out the rest of the face with foundation so that you’re not red in other areas where you don’t want to be red.” Then, blend a vibrant pink cream blush outward and upward, starting from below the cheekbones, and finish by going back to clean up the edges with a bit of foundation. “You want to be sure everything is even and the color isn’t stronger in once place than another.” A final, finishing touch of soft brown grease paint around the eyes “gives it just that little bit of strength.”
