Though donned to mark the start of an extended birthday week, Bieber’s skin-skimming Bordeaux was cause for celebration in its own right. The piece is an archival number pulled from Thierry Mugler s fall 1998 couture collection, sourced by Tab Vintage. Though Mugler has referenced the glory of his late ’90s designs when crafting contemporary looks, Bieber s was an original, a spicy iteration of the onyx version sent down the runway. Styled with gold hoops and gilded watch (an accessory that boasted its own retro appeal), the dress felt entirely of-the-moment, making an instant visual case for the richness and romance inherent to vintage finds.
