When it comes to red carpet dressing, Timothée Chalamet is color agnostic: an eccentric butter yellow leather by Givenchy for the Oscars last year; a backless red Haider Ackermann moment, custom Chrome hearts in Marty Supreme orange with partner Kylie Jenner and his mom. Last night in Paris, Chalamet made the case for chocolate brown.
The actor, now intensely in the throes of his Oscars campaign, stepped out for the Marty Supreme premiere wearing a custom, warm brown suit by Sarah Burton at Givenchy. The look leaned hard into the Marty Mauser-era ‘80s silhouette, with a silky sheen, sharp shoulders and lapels, a looser body, and slouchy pants, all paired with a crisp white shirt sans tie. Chalamet wore his hair short and lightly mussed up, and a trimmed mustache and mini beard.
Chalamet posed on the red carpet with director Josh Safdie and movie co-writer, editor, and producer Ronald Bronstein—Safdie and Bronstein also…followed suit…with the nostalgic vibe, in their own coffee-toned suit and Safdie sporting a geometric tie.
While many of Chalamet’s out and about promo looks skew more streetwear (a rainbow of nylon movie merch jackets and flame-licked Uggs included), his red carpet appointments have leaned more Mauser-coded of late, embracing the more muted palettes and louche shapes.
The press tour wardrobe (as always, styled by Taylor McNeill) has been delightfully freewheeling, while still hard on the narrative and storytelling—the road to the Oscars is long, but Timothée Chalamet is all in.
