Move over, Harrison Ford! Hollywood is on the hunt for the next Han Solo for Disney’s much-anticipated Star Wars prequel spin-off. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney and Lucasfilm have been auditioning more than 2,500 actors for the role that launched Ford into superstardom back in 1977.
Who’s in the running? Pretty much every young film and television actor. The studio is reportedly looking for someone with a vague resemblance to Ford, but the age range of the casting pool is still quite varied. Thirty-year-old Dave Franco and 28-year-old Miles Teller are in talks for the role, as is 21-year-old teen heartthrob Ansel Elgort and Disney star Leo Howard, who turned 18 only this year. Casting director Jeanne McCarthy is also apparently considering Canadian actor Landon Liboiron (Hemlock Grove) and Brits Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl) and Tom Felton, aka Harry Potter’s Draco Malfoy.
But will Ford be at all sad to pass on the torch to a younger star? His appearance on last night’s Tonight Show quickly disabuses us of that notion. When Jimmy Fallon asked the actor if donning his Han Solo vest conjured up any bittersweet emotions, Ford simply replied: “No, I got paid.”
