According to Heidi Klum, “in fashion, you’re either in or you’re out,” but as far as Halloween celebrations are concerned, the supermodel’s 17th annual costume party was the place to be on Monday night. For this year’s gathering, Klum chose the trendy setting of Vandal; the sprawling art-filled restaurant and event space was radically transformed into a mad scientist laboratory just for the occasion. While dancing to tracks spun by Questlove, revelers such as Serena Williams (’80s fitness instructor) Gabrielle Union (race-car driver), and Chanel Iman (mummy) sipped on themed concoctions served up by waitstaff in blood-spattered lab coats. And while the hostess, supposedly “on Heidi time,” only turned up once cocktails were well underway, the move offered proof that, even on Halloween, one needn’t pretend to be anything other than worth the wait. Shortly after the clock struck midnight, Klum arrived armed with a squad of Heidi clones all outfitted in coordinating bedazzled leotards and suede thigh-high boots to match. “She’s the queen of Halloween,” declared Project Runway alum Erin Robertson, in anticipation of the lesson in how to make an entrance à la Klum.
The Daily Show host Trevor Noah, accompanied by girlfriend Jordyn Taylor, came dressed as Eddie Murphy’s character from Coming to America likely in a playful sartorial commentary on his South African expat status. Taylor opted instead for a Troll-doll disguise, and added inches to her already long and lean frame with an elaborate up-combed hairstyle. Couples costumes also reigned supreme among the likes of Terrence Jenkins and Jasmine Sanders, who made an adorable turn as astronauts while walking hand in hand on the red carpet. Though perhaps the most timely combination came courtesy of Ben Soffer and Claudia Oshry: The inimitable Instagram duo behind @boywithnojob and @girlwithnojob delivered a LOL take on Rob Kardashian and expectant Blac Chyna that was perfectly in step with 2016 pop culture—and nothing if not double tap–worthy.
