The Salon: Art + Design, which opens to the public today, is the sister fair to the Paris Biennale and brings with it 56 of the most distinguished high-design dealers, including Axel Vervoordt, Galerie kreo, and Carpenters Workshop. While the work on display ranges from the eighteenth century to contemporary, Salon’s strength lies in its expansive 20th-century offerings. Although the Salon s blockbuster offering is often art, the innovative and beautiful furniture are the real stars of the show. We asked six top interior designers to take us on a tour of what they’re most looking forward to seeing at this year’s Salon.

“Table Basse Anneaux” by Ingrid Donat, Carpenters Workshop
“The Ingrid Donat bronze table is a sculpture as much as it is a utilitarian object. She is known for reviving Art Deco and giving a contemporary look to her pieces without abandoning traditional techniques. The engraving is also remarkable, labor-intensive, and beautiful. This would be such a conversation piece anywhere it is placed and I’m all about making a statement with design and art.”

“The second piece I like is the Gustave Serrurier-Bovy hanging lamp. He was one of the designers who pioneered and created the Art Nouveau movement. That alone warrants deeper exploration of his pieces. However, it’s the simplicity yet the strength and timelessness of this lamp that caught my eye.”
