Jasmine Tookes would be lying if she said her second pregnancy surprised her. “I’m a big planner,” she says, laughing. “Having another baby was something that my husband and I always wanted to do. It was just a matter of timing and when it made sense—when we both weren t traveling as much.” Once they picked a window, she fastidiously tracked everything from her ovulation to when, exactly, to take a test. She and her husband, Juan David Borrero, found out the good news in February and revealed it to Vogue five months later. (P.S.—they’re having a boy.)

What did surprise her, however? The challenges of her second pregnancy. She had intense morning sickness and exhaustion during her first trimester. Compounding it all was the impending launch of her skincare business, Brunel Beauty. “I was absolutely exhausted on all of our Zoom calls—[my team was] probably like, ‘What is going on with her?’ Tookes says, adding that she kept her pregnancy quiet for the first three months. “I was trying to go through the everyday motions without falling asleep on everyone.” Especially not on her rambunctious two-year-old toddler, Mia. (“Chasing around a two-year-old didn’t make that any easier,” she says.)

Tookes says Mia doesn’t quite understand yet that she will have a sibling soon: “She’s still trying to figure out why my belly is the way it is, but I try to explain to her and I showed her the pictures of the ultrasound and she just looks at it a little odd. But I am so happy that I’ll have one of each and I think that she’ll be such a great big sister.”

“Last time I was pregnant, it was in the winter months. This time I’m more pregnant in the summer months where I’m actually showing,” Jasmine Tookes says of her pregnancy style.

With all of this on her plate, Tookes says she doesn’t have a specific pregnancy routine. It’s more of doing, well, whatever she can manage each day. Sometimes that’s a walk or pilates. Sometimes, it’s just throwing on a pair of leggings and calling it a day. Her advice to other expecting mothers? Hydrate—and “take a nap when you can and don’t feel guilty for taking a nap.”

When she can, she’s been trying to have fun with her pregnancy style: “I’ve really leaned into a lot of dresses. I love to do a beautiful, sleek black body-con dress and anything that’s really bump-hugging, and I’ll throw a blazer over the shoulder,” she says. “Last time I was pregnant, it was in the winter months. This time I’m more pregnant in the summer months where I’m actually showing.” Some of her favorite brands lately include Hunza G, Dissh, Ralph Lauren, Norma Kamali, Saint Laurent, and Ser.o.ya.

One of the reasons she likes showing off her bump? She’s proud of what the female body is capable of. “Your body is doing one of the most incredible things, which is growing life,” she says. “I always remind myself that I deserve grace and love and just to be really happy during this time.”
