Forget Method Dressing, Jenna Ortega Is All About Method Glamming

While the press tour for Jenna Ortega’s latest film has been compact, the actor has made the most of the moments to turn gothic, glamorous beauty looks: From a bruising blood red lip and floating red liner, to a classic cat eye with lashings of mascara.

She’s been out promoting her latest film, the A24 comedy horror Death of a Unicorn, all the while, there’s also continued anticipation for the return of her Netflix series Wednesday, set for some time in 2025. That means, then, that Ortega—who we know does method dressing (and method glamming) right—is fully immersed in the world of goth.

Stepping out in New York before her appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the actor wore a wine red lip that matched her glasses and brought out the plum tones in her blown out hair, as well as her dark, aubergine nails.

She also wore an espresso brown leather blazer and matching midi skirt, with a cropped white top, a black shoulder bag, and black ankle strap pumps.

Such a dark shade of lipstick is quite a rarity on Ortega, who prefers more neutral shades—and every so often, a bombshell bright red—and keeping the focus on her eyes with dramatic swipes of liner.

But the sensual shade has been having a bit of a moment—at Haider Ackermann’s debut Tom Ford show for Paris Fashion Week, makeup artist Lucy Bridge created a sexy, vampy lip with the house’s liner, lipstick, and gloss that spoke to the collection’s bewitching, siren-y sensibilities. Kristen McMenamy, a dark-lipped icon herself, led the charge of models with the standout lip. At Louis Vuitton, Dame Pat McGrath created an alluring palette of late-in-the-evening, stained wine lips to match the smoky eyes.

Ortega also appeared yesterday at the New York screening of Death of a Unicorn. This time, she had tightly lined eyes and spiky mascara, with a rosy pink lip and stick-straight hair. It complemented her Bond Girl-esque LBD from David Koma’s pre-fall 2025 collection.

The wacky and bloody forthcoming film from A24 sees Ortega star alongside Will Poulter, Paul Rudd, Téa Leoni, and Richard E. Grant. Ortega and Rudd play daughter and father, who accidentally run over and kill a unicorn, and must evade the unicorn’s out-for-revenge parents.

Day to night, night to day goth glam, as a unicorn murderer or Miss Wednesday Adamms—Jenna Ortega has it nailed.
