Pictures of Jennifer Lopez walking the red carpet at the MTV Movie TV Awards on 5 June could be from 2003. The ageless singer wore a plunging leather corset from Mônot—the brand behind the conceal/reveal LBDs loved by the A-list—with a floor-dusting maxi skirt and platforms from her own eponymous footwear line.
Fans got a closer view of her look when she accepted the Generation Award on stage. She told the audience: “I look at all those movies and I see all the wonderful people that I’ve been blessed to know and to work with”.
The outfit was reminiscent of daring looks that she wore throughout the Noughties. J Lo would often wear a chest-baring gown or a figure-skimming slip dress—who could forget the viral jungle-print Versace dress she wore at the turn of the millennium?
Unapologetically low necklines are still a constant in Lopez’s wardrobe. Last year, she made her red-carpet debut with rekindled lover and now-fiancé Ben Affleck—whom she formerly dated in 2002—wearing a jaw-dropping white dress by Georges Hobeika that was encrusted with crystals, with silver Jimmy Choo heels, a bedazzled Judith Leiber clutch and Cartier jewelry.
Princess dresses are another trend she’s held onto—Lopez has floated down many a red carpet in frothy gowns. Highlights include: the Badgley Mischka gown she wore to the Oscars in 1999; the Chanel couture dress she sported at the 2001 ceremony, and the mint one-shoulder Valentino dress, inspired by Jackie Kennedy, that she wore to the awards in 2003.
