Jonathan Cohen, the New York-based fashion brand founded in 2011, is known for its colorful and wholehearted embrace of (often upcycled) floral prints. So, it’s perhaps fitting that this spring, they opened a pop-up on Madison Avenue—a block from Central Park—just as the cherry blossoms bloomed. “I’ve been walking around the Upper East Side since the pandemic,” Cohen tells Vogue. “I just thought it was very beautiful—I love the park, especially all the lilies. And with so many of our clients up here, I just thought it was the perfect time.”
And on May 5, a stylish group of New Yorkers gathered to fete the fashionable newcomer in the neighborhood. Fellow designers Batsheva Hay, Victor Glemaud, and Gigi Burris mingled among the racks of sustainable clothing, as well as artist Angelica Hicks. Vogue’s Lynn Yaeger and Paper’s editor-at-large Mickey Boardman caught up in the crowd. A particular hit with the guests? Boozy ice cream cups, a perfect indulgence on the warm May evening.
Artwork, as well as clothing, plays a star aesthetic role in the space: there’s a one-of-a-kind chair by Fernando Mastrangelo, as well as resin tables and a “Lahar” mirror by Djivan Schapira. A neon orange Flux de Tulipes table, also by Schapira, acts as a centerpiece while Assouline books line the shelves hung across the walls. Meanwhile, a colorful salon at the back of the store will serve as a place for personal fittings. Guests can further accessorize with Aera‘s shoes.
Jonathan Cohen’s Madison Avenue pop-up store is open now through June 14.
