At Vogue World 2025: Hollywood on Sunday night, Julia Garner stepped into a new role for one night only: Marie Antoinette. The actor donned a faithful recreation of one of Kirsten Dunst’s 60-plus costumes for Sofia Coppola’s 2006 film, Marie Antoinette.

A mirror to the young queen’s lavish lifestyle at Versailles, the decadent dress—designed by Milena Canonero and reproduced by Tirelli especially for Vogue World Hollywood—took a “more is more” approach. The cream gown was embellished with ruffles galore—tracing the contours of the bodice and skirt, not to mention its diaphanous frilly sleeves. Underneath the skirt was a layer of pink tulle, helping to give the dress its shape and adding a whimsical pop of color. (Later in the night, Garner continued to think pink, sporting a black high-necked top and bubblegum-toned wrapped miniskirt to the Vogue World after-party.)

In place of the Manolo Blahnik shoes Dunst wore in the original film, Garner hit the runway in a pair of the legendary footwear designer’s recent Marie Antoinette capsule collection, pink pointy-toe mules with baby blue laces and black contrast piping, which Lila Moss wore in the November 2025 issue of Vogue.

The ultra-stylish film earned Canonero an Oscar—one of her four. (Barry Lyndon, Chariots of Fire, and The Grand Budapest Hotel netted her other Academy Awards.) Now, it served as the inspiration for Louis Vuitton’s Nicolas Ghesquière, who channeled Canonero’s mastery of period costumes to create a drop-waist corset and structural, yet flowing skirt. Both looks hit the runway at Paramount Studios.

While we’re all waiting with bated breath for Garner to star in the Madonna biopic, on Sunday, the actor traded in Madge’s signature bullet bras for rococo royalty.
