Fall (and spooky season!) is officially here, meaning it’s time to bust out your favorite coats, knits, and boots. If you’re anything like us, this also means you need a bit of a styling refresh. After all, we’ve spent most of the summer months without having to think about layers. The street style star who should be on your moodboard, if you’re looking for a place to start? Model Kaia Gerber, who’s nailed the art of fall dressing thanks to an easy styling hack.

Over the past month, the model has been stepping out in ensembles that always strike the right balance between casual and polished. She has an effortless, pared-back formula that’s perfect for weekend errands or hanging with friends. Gerber starts with an oversized button-up shirt, then layers the piece over a more form-fitting tank, and adds a baggier dress pant to dress it up. Often, she’ll accessorize with Adidas’s Samba sneakers and her go-to emerald Celine shoulder bag, for a more model-off-duty vibe. (There’s always a designer It bag involved.)

The end results of Gerber’s approach are fall fits that are nonchalant and totally put-together—not to mention it’s a more unexpected choice compared to her favorite boxy blazers. To replicate it yourself, just size up in your favorite button-up shirts, and layer it with some hero pieces. Voila!
